Juliana & Jake: Romantic Elegance

Working with Juliana to create her invitation suite was truly amazing. She (and her now hubby, Jake) had a clear vision of what they wanted for their wedding and how they wanted to introduce that vision to their guests with their invitation suite.

Their aesthetic was Edwardian Romance meets Art Deco Glam - and then wanted to incorporate elements of their venue, the Chicago History Museum, into the suite. There are several stained glass windows in the museum that we felt inspired by.

I described my initial vision to them like this:

“Moon Flowers and Lily of the Valley (a reflection of the History Museum’s Tiffany glass window)
delicately encircle an outline reminiscent of a wrought iron frame, with a subtly art-deco shape. As if, over the years, the stained glass window had fallen away to reveal a living version of itself.”

We ultimately created an invitation that combined softer, romantic watercolor and elegant Edwardian script, with more structured Art Deco elements - using Louis Sullivan’s wrought iron elevator grilles at the Chicago Stock Exchange, to inspire the frame. (Who knew an elevator could inspire such pretty things!?)

The full suite was printed on dreamy double thick paper, and included inner and outer envelopes, envelope liners and custom wax seals. Swoon!
